To meet growing demand for qualified managers in the increasingly complex health care industry, Excelsior College has introduced a health care management concentration in its online MBA program. It is a collaborative effort between Excelsior’s Schools of Health Sciences and Business & Technology.
“Despite the recession, the health care industry continues to create jobs and projects to add millions more over the next five years,” said Dr. Deborah Sopczyk, dean of the School of Health Sciences. “Graduates of this program will be able to pursue senior-level positions in a number of health care disciplines and assume responsibility for organizational operations, staffing, finances and budgeting, among a host of other essential management duties.”
According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for medical and health care service managers will increase 16 percent by 2018.
“The growing health care field is pushing demand for educated, senior-level practitioners and this program will provide the intellectual foundation and the practical skills necessary to forge successful, innovative leaders,” said Dr. Jane LeClair, dean of the School of Business & Technology.
The MBA concentration meets the needs of experienced managers who have completed a baccalaureate degree in a health care/health services program and who seek to enhance their management abilities through a flexible yet academically rigorous master’s program. The health care management concentration includes courses in Communication Strategy for the Health Care Leader; Strategic Management of Health Care Organizations; and Health Care Policy, Politics and Power. Students in Excelsior’s MBA program must complete 27 graduate-level credits which includes all core and concentration requirements. Other MBA concentrations at Excelsior include cybersecurity, human performance technology, information security, leadership, or technology management.
Registration for the concentration will open on June 13. Those seeking more information should contact an Excelsior Admissions Counselor – by phone at 1-888-285-8649 or email at admissions(at)excelsior(dot)edu.
