An Albany non-profit group that helps pull families out of poverty strikes gold. Strive 2 Thrive won the American Chamber of Commerce Executives Gold Award.

The program pairs people struggling with poverty with successful mentors. The 16-week course teaches money management and addresses specific ways to overcome poverty.

The director says she hopes those who go through the program will pay it forward. Ausha Jackson said, "Our goal is to help them to become leaders so that they in turn can help other families come out of poverty as well as serve as leaders in our community."

The award will be presented to Albany Chamber of Commerce leaders at a convention in Louisville, Kentucky on August 2.

Strive to Thrive is also a finalist for the Alliance for Regional Stewardship's Organizational Champion Award.
