ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
A former Dougherty County Sheriff's Deputy is now on trial, accused of selling personal information from jail inmates.
Prosecutors say Charles Tharpe took information off the jail computer and tried to sell it to identity thieves.
Tharpe was an 11 year veteran of the Sheriff's Office who was working as a detention officer at the jail in January 2011, when prosecutors say he sold the personal information to a GBI informant.
There are seven victims listed in the indictment. Jury selection began Monday morning.
