DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -

A single vehicle wreck leaves one man dead and another in the hospital. Dougherty County Police say the car was traveling west on Hardup Road.

Just before 6:30am, the driver lost control and slammed into an oak tree. Someone passing by called 911.

Dougherty County Coroner Emma Quimbley pronounced the driver dead on scene and the passenger was rushed to Phoebe Putney Hospital. The coroner says no one in the car wore seatbelts.

"It's very important to wear your seat belts, it can save your life. Do every thing possible to stay safe on the road and that means wearing your seat belts," said Lt. Anthony Rogers.

DCP has not released names of those involved in the crash. We're working to gather more information on this story.
