TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

A grant helps a disabled woman in Tifton purchase a van.

52 year old Jeanette Washington received a 10-thousand dollar grant from the Brain and Spinal Injury Trust Fund Commission in Atlanta to purchase a van with a lift to help her get around town.

Washington has been confined to a wheelchair since she was 19 years-old.

A car accident left her paralyzed from the waist down and had to have both legs removed after they were infected with pressure sores caused by diabetes.

"I love it, if it is raining, I can get in the van, if it is cold, or whatever, I have got my van sitting out there if I need to go some place, it is so much of a blessing," says Jeanette Washington\Grant Recipient.

Washington says this is the first time that she has a vehicle with a lift to get around. Before the grant, she was using a wood board as a ramp to get her wheelchair into a van.
