Miss Georgia Cotton organizes free health screenings

Posted: Updated:

People in Albany had the chance to get free health screenings Saturday.

Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, the YMCA, Miss Georgia Cotton and the Albany Mall teamed up to bring Southwest Georgia a day full of information to help make your summer healthier and safer.

The Health and Safety day was held at the Albany Mall and gave people the chance to get blood pressure screenings, CPR information, and AED demonstrations.

"It is very important to do screenings early on, as I said, I have high cholesterol for my age, and most people think that if you are 21 or even 30, that there is not point in getting your cholesterol checked, or your blood pressure checked, but you can have a heart attack at a very young age, and so we need to make sure that people my age know that you need to start now being healthy because it is going to affect how you live in the future," says Carly Mathis\Miss Georgia Cotton.

YMCA gave Zumba exercise demonstrations to teach people about living a healthy lifestyle.
