Thomas Co. EMS cautions flood safety

Posted: Updated:

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Thomas County Emergency workers want to remind you about flooding dangers after some of the worst flash floods they've ever seen.

Seven inches of rain fell in parts of the area Wednesday night.

Cherokee Lake flooded and water covered numerous streets.

Emergency officials say you should stay away from standing water both in your car and on foot.

Some folks had to be rescued from their homes, and one 12-year old boy was swept into a culvert.

"We dodged a major bullet the other day with the youngster that got caught in one of the storm drains, and I understand everybody wants to get out and look and see what kind of damage, but that was really kind of an eye opener for all us," said EMS Captain Tim Coram.

12-year old Ethan Nunnally was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital, but luckily he suffered only minor cuts and bruises.
