A hostage situation turned into a standoff on Haley St. in Albany between 4:30 and 5:00 this morning.  The area is a block east of Slappey Blvd., between Society and Pine Avenue.

Someone fired a shot, which struck Albany Police officer Willie Hall. Hall was wearing body armor, and the bullet hit the armor and his cell phone. The cell phone was shattered, and may have helped slow the bullet, which was caught by his body armor as well, and he was not seriously wounded.

Officer Hall was taken to Phoebe Putney hospital for examination.

APD's SWAT team was also called in. When the house was stormed, officers discovered that the suspects were no longer there, and the hostages were unharmed.

Police say they are on the lookout for three black men who were dressed in all black clothing.

APD has called a news conference for 4:00 this afternoon.

Jim Wallace will follow this story throughout the day.
