Are you enjoying outdoor activities this summer? June is "Great Outdoors month" and this week is National Fishing and Boating week.
It's not only a great time to enjoy the fresh air, but a great time to make some memories that will last a lifetime.
Your first fishing experience, it's one of those things some people don't forget.
"I went out with my daddy," said Cailey Bendzen.
11-year old Cailey Bendzen has been fishing ever since she was five years old.
"Well we would go some Fridays when we were bored at the house, we would go fishing or swimming but mostly we would go fishing," said Bendzen.
And over the years, it's become one of her favorite things to do.
"I take the fish and put it on the cooler and put the knife on it and get all the skin off," said Bendzen.
June is "Great Outdoors month" where events are held the entire month, this week is national fishing and boating week, where most states offer free fishing days.
"Free fishing day provides people the opportunity to fish for free without having to purchase a license for public waters here," said Julie Robbins, Department of Natural Resources.
It's an effort to get people to take part in fishing who don't normally do so and you can do it at any public waters in the state.
"Any of the reservoirs Lake Blackshear, Lake Seminole, Eufala those areas are available for fishing," said Robbins.
There are also a series of kids fishing events held to help kids get into the sport. Most are geared towards catching catfish but some ponds have bass and bream.
"Some of these kids have never fished at all and the look on their face when they bring in that first catfish is priceless," said Robbins.
Outdoor activities help strengthen families so It's a way of bringing families together not only with fishing, but boating, hunting and archery as well.
There is a free kids fishing event this weekend at Paradise Fishing Area just outside of Tifton. Anyone is welcome to come.
