Sisters convicted on charges of committing mother

Posted: Updated:

A Dougherty County Jury has convicted two Albany sisters charged with maliciously having their mother committed in a mental facility.

The trial of Carrie Franklin and Connie Justice lasted six days. They will be sentenced later.

Prosecutors say in September the sisters had their mother, Jean Sancken, committed to the mental facility at Phoebe Putney Hospital after she took out a criminal warrant to have them and their families thrown out of her house.

The sisters testified they had concerns for months about Sancken's mental condition.

Prosecutors say one of the alternate jurors in the trial died of natural causes over the weekend, but it has not affected the trial.
