Fallen Marine's body taken to funeral home

Posted: Updated:

Law enforcement vehicles and the Patriot Guard escorted the body of Lance Cpl. Steve Sutton as it arrived back in South Georgia from a military base in Dover, Delaware.

The plane carrying Sutton's body landed at the Albany airport about 10:00AM.

Patriot Riders lined the path to the tarmac, where the casket holding Sutton's body was taken from the plane, and put into the hearse.

Law enforcement officers escorted family members and the hearse from the airport, down South Slappey Boulevard and ending at Kimbrell Stern Funeral home on Dawson Road.

The funeral for Sutton will be Wednesday at 2:00 at the First Baptist Church of Leesburg.

The public is invited for the visitation, Tuesday from 5 to 8, at Kimbrell Stern Funeral on Dawson Road.

Only family and close friends are invited to Wednesday's funeral, but the family asks the community to line the procession route from the southern city limits of Leesburg along Highway 19 South to Third Avenue in Albany, then right on 3rd to Dawson Road and then to Crown Hill Cemetery.

WALB will more coverage later today.
