Time is running out for Dougherty County Commissioners to decide whether to raise property taxes.

The Finance Committee is supposed to forward a budget proposal to the full commission next Monday.

County Administrator Richard Crowdis recommended cutting nine paid holidays for county workers to save the county around $900,000.

He also recommended raising the millage rate from 7.2 to 9.2 mils.

That's not only sitting well with taxpayers or some commissioners.

"They're against that, very vigorously. I'm against that and I'm representing those people, So that's why I'm trying to get the commission to look at other ways to either reduce services or find other ways to generate revenue," said District 4 Commissioner Ewell Lyle.

Commissioner Lyle wants the committee to look at the savings of eliminating the 3-1-1 service and cutting back the Economic Development Commission funding.

The Finance committee will meet again Friday.
