T'ville YMCA begins Summer Food program

Posted: Updated:

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - A south Georgia YMCA is making sure thousands of kids get nutritious meals while they're out of school this summer.

With the help of a grant from the USDA, the Y in Thomasville is hosting their annual Summer Food program.

Kids who receive free or reduced lunch during the school year can pick up breakfast and lunch at one of 36 Thomas County sites.

"Some of these kids, you know without this program, would not get meals during the day. So you know this way they can get a nutritious breakfast and lunch and some kids it's the only meals they get during the day," said Summer Food Director Cindy Quigg.

Y officials say they will feed about three thousand kids every weekday from now until the start of the school year.
