What began as a nightmarish type day ended in a dream-like finish for the Westwood baseball team after a 12-11 win early Saturday evening. Westwood needed one win in two games against Crisp Academy to claim the GISA Class A baseball championship. It was Crisp Academy that shot out of the gates in game two of the best of three series.
Crisp scored 7 runs on the second inning, including a grand slam by Hunter Cook. Westwood failed to get much offense going but did manage 6 runs in a 15-6 loss.
Westwood got the bats going in game three and was on top 2-0 after the first 3 innings. It was an 11-3 lead in the 6th when Crisp Academy began its come back run and got the game down to a 3 run deficit, 11-8.
In the end, Westwood held on for the 12-11 win, stopping Crisp Academy from winning back to back state championships.
