Supporters scream of pure joy after the results were read and were found everywhere earlier as the finale begins. And the pride that they have for the 21-year old Idol star is overwhelming.
Now the rock-n-roll blues kid with a heartwarming smile from Leesburg has gone from playing local bars and venues to a celebrity status and title that will change his life forever.
Phillips beat out California's Jessica Sanchez in the finale after fans cast more than 132 million votes. Phillips broke down in tears at the end of tonight's show as he sang "Home," the song that will be his first single. Phillips left the stage and embraced his family.
