TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

A Tifton scientist is running for Tift County Commission Chairman.

Stephen Mullis works at the UGA Experiment Station. He's a Tifton native and an army veteran.

Mullis says he'll be fiscally responsible and will offers a fresh perspective.

"Since, I've decided to run, the response has been overwhelmingly positive," Mullis said. "This tells me a lot people in this community are looking for a new voice, a change. I think I can be a new voice for county government."

Mullis is going up against incumbent Grady Thompson.
