STATESBORO, GA -

Former Lee County Trojans Chase Griffin made a big impact on the Southern Conference in his freshman season at Georgia Southern.

Conference coaches took notice when selecting their postseason teams.

The SoCon baseball coaches voted Chase Griffin freshman of the year.

Griffin led all Division I freshmen in homeruns this season with 10.

He is the first Eagle catcher to hit double digits in homeruns in a season for 16 years.

Griffin is the first Georgia Southern baseball player to win the freshman of the year award since Brett Lewis in 1999.

Eagles third baseman Eric Phillips earned first team all-conference honors.

Chase Griffin and Tyler Avera both made the all freshman team.

Georgia Southern will play Elon in the first round of the Southern Conference baseball tournament Wednesday at 1:00 in Greenville, South Carolina.
