TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

Tift County is going purple for Lupus Awareness.

Tomorrow is national Wear purple day to create a discussion about Lupus.

100 Tift County residents will meet at Brodie Football Field in Tifton at 7:30 tonight to take a Group picture to create awareness of the disease.

Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body, especially the skin, joints, blood, and kidneys.

"Tomorrow I am challenging everyone to please wear their purple, whether it is purple tank tops, or purple shirts, or whatever, something purple to show you are aware of Lupus in your community," said Pat McKinnon, Lupus Awareness Advocator, Lupus Survivor.

Lupus affects about 1.5M Americans.

Nearly 90 percent of those diagnosed with the disease are female.
