The Albany Panthers were on the verge of back to back losses when defensive back Damien Daniels came to the rescue with two late interceptions to help seal the 54-47 win over the Louisiana Swashbucklers. The Panthers sprung out of the gate in the first quarter and led 14-0 mid-way through the first quarter.
The Louisiana Swashbucklers fought back and the Panthers had a 20-19 halftime lead. Then down 7 with 55 seconds left, Panthers' quarterback Cecil Lester found Antwone Savage alone in the back of the end zone to make it a 47-47 game. On the ensuing Louisiana possession, Bucs' quarterback Freedie Harrison lofted up a deep pass but Daniels picked it off for his second interception of the game.
The ball went back to the Panthers when Lester notched another touchdown, this time it was Clinton Rafe on the other end for the touchdown to make it 54-47 with just over 30 seconds left in the game. It was then when Harrison again lofted up a deep ball that found the waiting arms of Daniels for his 3rd interception to seal the 54-47 victory.
Lester said "It was a big win for us, we didn't play well in the first half. Things got kind of rocky there at halftime but that's personal inside the locker room but it was a big win because we just lost last week so it was necessary that we protect the home turf."
The 7-1 Panthers will play at Alabama next week.
