Folks travel hundreds of miles to see Phillip Phillips

LEE CO., GA (WALB) - A lot of folks are traveling in from out of town for Saturday's Phillip Phillips events. Some from way out of town.

We've heard of fans traveling from as far away as Texas just so they can be in the middle of the action.

What started off as a business trip ended up as a Phillip Phillips trip for Denise Holborn.

"We saw the sign for Leesburg and freaked and decided to come here to see if Phil was here, Phillip," said Holborn.

Holborn along with her mom and sister drove up from Kissimmee Florida but ended up taking a detour to the town of Leesburg a small town that's producing a lot of big named stars.

"Oh this is cool we even saw the Luke Bryan signs coming in, I didn't realize he was from this small town also," she said.

Unfortunately, Holborn won't be able to stay for Phillips big homecoming event Saturday, but she did get her hands on some Phillip Phillips merchandise.

"Oh my Phil Phillips signs!! We were going to borrow some but we decided that wasn't a good idea so city hall told us where we could buy some," she said.

The owner of Java The Hut in Leesburg says lately that's all she's seen..folks eager to get their hands on Phillip Phillips merchandise.

"It has become Phillip Phillips headquarter here," said Dean'Na Barnes, owner of Java The Hut.

And people are traveling hundreds of miles just so they can be in the middle of all of the Phillip Phillips mania.

"People are calling, wanting to put their campers here and they are coming as far as Texas," she said.

Hotels aren't booked yet but they are filling up quickly.

"Several of the hotels are at 50 percent," said Rashelle Beasley, Manager of the Albany Convention and Visitors Bureau.

So today, they painted signs to welcome Phillip into town tonight.

"We want to do our best to welcome Phillip to town, and certainly to welcome those who have never been here before," said Beasley.

The southern hospitality and authenticity left an impression on Holborn.

"I love the little town so we will grab real estate signs when we leave," she said.

Since there will be so many out of towners in the area this weekend, officials ask that everyone is extra nice and welcoming to all of our guests.
