Leesburg celebrates Phillips' triumphant return

Leesburg and Lee County are gearing up for the biggest thing to happen since... well, since anybody can remember.

American Idol finalist Phillip Phillips is in the top three, which means he's coming home to Leesburg for a  Hometown Hero celebration.

Phillips will land in a private jet Friday night at the Eagles of American terminal, next to the Albany Airport.

A parade kicks of Phillip Phillips Day at 2:30 Saturday afternoon in downtown Leesburg.

It will be followed by a concert at the Lee County High School stadium at 3:00.

The 21-year-old Phillips, who graduated from Lee County High three years ago, will be presented proclamations from the city of Leesburg and Lee County leaders, and a state representative will present a proclamation from Governor Nathan Deal.

The Chamber of Commerce and businesses are getting calls from around the country from people who plan to t ravel to Leesburg for Phillips concert.

They hope to park their campers or pitch tents at the high school. Calls are coming from as far away as Texas.
