What are you praying for today?

Posted: Updated:

Don't be surprised if you see people around town holding hands with their heads bowed. That's because May 3rd is being recognized as The National Prayer Day.

Whether you like to kneel and close your eyes or stand with your head bowed, May 3rd has been set aside as a day of reflection.

This year's theme for The National Day of Prayer is, "Blessed is the Nation Whose God is The Lord." It comes from Psalm 33:13.

Organizers want people of all faith to come together and pray for the nation. This day of meditation was first signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1952.

However, it wasn't until 1993 that Albany held their very first city-wide remembrance of that day. Here in Albany, there are a couple of events observing this day of prayer. @@

The first is a prayer breakfast at MCLB and it starts at 6:30. A group will gather at noon to pray at the Government Center Building in downtown Albany. @@

This day was founded by those of the Judeo Christian Faith. However, all faiths are encouraged to gather and pray.
