LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

Plunging necklines, backless gowns, thigh high slits and cut-out midsections- all popular trends for a prom dress, and all not allowed at Lee County High Schools prom.

Shelly Wallace and Kara Brinson are seniors at Lee County High.  Both think the dress code is reasonable, but say it makes it more challenging to find the perfect gown.

"I know back in the day people wore the poofy ones and the ones were, more like you said, Cinderella. But nowadays they're really slim and tight and they're really low cut, cut-outs," said Wallace.

Both girls were interviewed before the prom by Inside Edition for a story on the dress code.  It seems that many of the trendy looks teenagers go after are based on the Hollywood stars who are strutting down the red carpet in dresses that are Prom don'ts.

"It's gotten progressively harder over the years because what you see on the Hollywood red carpet, how stars have the cut-outs and practically see through dresses and slits way up to their thighs. And in order to meet the dress code rules you have to really search hard to find a good dress," said Brinson.

This is the fourth year the dress code has been in place for all Lee County High School dances. And school officials say they've seen a decrease of dress code violators every year.

"There were a few dresses that didn't quite make the code. We had several girls who either went back to the car and made adjustments in order to meet the code, or they went home and changed clothes," said Ginger Lawrence, the assistant principal for Lee County High School.

And guys aren't off the hook. They have to wear a tux or suit and must keep their shirts on during the entire dance.

Dress shops in the area are doing their part to make sure girls can find their perfect dress and meet the dress code.  "Usually we offer the girls a solution.  We show ways that we can fill out the back a little bit with some mesh or any kind of detailing on the back and sew up the neckline so they can get their dream dress," said Alli Hatcher, the manager at Chicas.
