The Flint RiverQuarium Turtle Race will be held Saturday, March 3, at 4:00 pm as part of Rock, Roll and Run Weekend.
With the shift of the main Mardi Gras festivities this year, the Flint RiverQuarium will be right in the center of the action and will be offering special Mardi Gras Madness admission of $5 all day for all ages which will include extra children's activities.
Visitors also can enjoy a one-day screening of Turtle: The Incredible Journey at the Imagination Theater. The movie is free to RiverQuarium members and $3 for non-members. Show times are 10 am, 11:30 am, 1 pm, 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm.
This year's Turtle Race prizes include $5,000 in cash; free gas for one year from Homerun Foods; $1,000 in groceries from Winn Dixie; a Hobie Lanai kayak from Huggins Outboard; mosquito treatment for one year from Adams Exterminators; a Taste of Albany package which includes a night's stay at Merry Acres and $150 in gift cards from area restaurants; a SCUBA certification class from Adventure Dive Center; and a doggie spa weekend from Yellow Dog Kennels.
Turtles may be adopted online at www.flintriverquarium.com, by mail, by phone at 229-639-2650 or on-site at the Mardi Gras gates or at the Flint RiverQuarium until 3 pm the day of the race. The cost of a single turtle is $5. Multi-turtle packages also are available.
The Flint RiverQuarium is southwest Georgia's premier aquarium, featuring more than 1,000 animals that call the Flint River watershed home.
The Flint RiverQuarium is located at 101 Pine Avenue in downtown Albany, Georgia. Regular operating hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m.-5 p.m.
