Darton takes application for new four year program

Nursing students at Darton will now be able to stay on campus even longer.
 
April Reese Dean of Nursing says, "We here at Darton, our students, and graduates have been asking for this for a very long time."

Tracy Suber Assistant Dean of Nursing "Our students are so excited about it and the response is unbelievable."

Darton college is now the home of a program that allows nursing students to earn a bachelor's degree, and students can sign up now. 

Reese says,  "We're now accepting applications." 

The new program will expand the curriculum and the skills that students will learn. 

Reese says, "This is a completion -program so they will complete their baccalaureate components and eventually have a bachelors in nursing." 

The new program is part of initiative across the nation to further the education level of nurses. 

Reese says, "The background for it comes as really  a movement in  the nation for nursing to be of higher education."

And to have a majority obtain post associate degree education.

Reese says, "And recommending that 80% of registered nurses be at the baccalaureate level by 2020."

This program will not only keep students at Darton but keep that skilled workforce in south Georgia.

Suber says, "Just being able to give back and providing those opportunity to our students and the community is wonderful."

An economic boost that can benefit all.
