Salvation Army wants to organize joint responses to disasters

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA -

The Salvation Army hopes to bring together the city and county and other agencies to organize a joint response to disasters.

They'll hold a training session in April in an effort to prevent vital services from being duplicated.

In a disaster many agencies respond to offer assistance, sometimes duplicating services.

With resources low as a result of the economy, the Salvation Army says it's more important than ever that the community work together to respond to a disaster.

"The teacher that is coming is the territorial disaster director for the southern territory he's responsible for the Salvation Army disaster response for the southeast 13 states of this country.  A highly trained man named Jeff Jellets, he was with GEMA at one point," said Captain Doug McClure, Salvation Army

Those who attend the class on April 26th will learn how the Salvation Army works with government, community and faith-based organizations.
