Parishioners fill church on Ash Wednesday

Posted: Updated:

Parishioners filled churches all over the world to celebrate Ash Wednesday. St. Teresa's held a special mass to mark the first day of Lent.

It was standing room only during their noon service which included the traditional marking of the cross on the forehead with ashes.

"It is to remind us that we were made from ashes and we will be returned and we also think about and we also think about Christ dying on the cross," says Jim Burgess, Church Volunteer.

Many mark the 40 days of lent leading up to Easter by fasting or giving up something they enjoy to make more room in their lives for the lord.
