ALBANY, GA -
Dougherty County School Officials are talking with the Department of Education to ensure issues over CRCT cheating don't jeopardize the system's Race to the Top funding.
One of the stipulations of Race to the Top funding is having strong leadership in schools. During today's school board meeting, Board Chairman James Bush raised questions about Albany High School's lack of a principal.
Angela Shumate was sent to the Isabella complex as a result of allegations of cheating from the 2009 CRCT's.
"We have to have leadership in place, it can't be ambiguous, it has to be clearly defined who is the leader because we're being marked or graded by our performance and these are things we must do, have to do to be in compliance," said Rev. James Bush, DCSS Board Chairman.
"We're working with the Georgia Department of Education, we have the type of administrations who are able to take over who have been in training, who's running those programs," Dr. Joshua Murfree, DCSS Superintendent
Dr. Murfree said if it gets to a point that the school system has to make changes and bring in a principal then that will be done.
Right now, two assistant principals are handling the leadership duties at Albany High School.
