More charges filed in daycare molestation case

Posted: Updated:

TIFTON (WALB) - Additional child molestation charges were filed Tuesday against a Tift County daycare worker.

Investigators say 60-year-old Shelton Floyd molested children as young as 3-years old at the daycare center.

Some parents have pulled their children out of the center but it remains open.

Floyd remains behind bars in the Tift County jail and that's likely where he will remain for some time.

Right now, Floyd is charged with molesting five children at Upon Eagles Wings Child Development Center, either inside the facility or in a daycare van, but investigators say there may be more victims.

The children ranged in age from 3 to 10 years old.

The was still open Tuesday with children inside the facility. A  woman who worked at the daycare, but did not identify herself, originally did not speak with us on camera.

So we waited.

Finally she opened the door and told us this, "If you want me to say something, what it is... we are in compliance with the investigator and those who are in charge of the case. That's all I have to say."

She would not say if anyone was aware of any prior problems involving Floyd or how long he had been employed at the daycare.

Parents we spoke with off camera told us they had removed their children from the daycare and were surprised the facility is still open.

Meantime sheriffs officials say the investigation is ongoing. Detectives continue to question more families and say it's likely more charges will be filed against Floyd.

Floyd is charged 2 counts of aggravated sexual battery, 4 counts of child molestation, and 1 count of enticing a child for indecent purposes.

In addition to the ongoing criminal investigation, the division of family and children services and the state department of early care and learning are investigating.
