Wilcox Sheriff due in federal court

Posted: Updated:

MACON (WALB) – A south Georgia sheriff is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in federal court.

Wilcox County Sheriff Stacy Bloodsworth is named in a 14-count indictment.

Prosecutors say he, his son Austin and former inmate Willie James Caruthers assaulted two inmates.

Former jailer Casey Owens is accused of joining the three in beating a third inmate.

Prosecutors say Bloodsworth tried to cover up the assaults and lied to federal investigators.

We're told Bloodsworth is in custody but we don't where he is being held.
