Lee County baseball healthy and ready in 2012

LEESBURG, GA (WALB) - It is time to play ball in Georgia.

This is the opening week for the high school baseball season in the Georgia High School Association.

The Lee County Trojans held their annual picture day and intrasquad game Monday morning before opening the season on Friday.

The Trojans have big expectations with a lineup that features first baseman Daniel Nichols who has signed with Georgia, third baseman Jimmy Shiver and outfielders Pedro Cruz, Mark Fowler and Andrew Stroud.

The big improvement is pitching.

Lee County won the region last year despite not having their three best pitchers.

This year the Trojans expect a solid staff led by senior Jess Posey-who is going to play as preferred walk-on at Georgia, junior Chris Mosley, junior Ty McAllister and sophomore T.J. Roberts.

Rob Williams said. "The 1's and 2's they are back and healthy this year. They didn't throw a pitch last year. As you know if you can pitch and keep it close."

Jess Posey said. "I am ready. I am feeling good and I am glad to be playing and not sitting anymore."

Daniel Nichols said. "We are very excited. We have been working really hard at practice. Hoping our hard work is going to pay off soon."

Lee County opens the season Friday at 4:00 p.m. at home against Westover.

It is part of the first ever Greatest Show on Dirt Invitational.

The first game is Thursday at 6:00 p.m. with Westover playing Schley County.
