No flooding for the Kinchafoonee

Posted: Updated:

In spite of heavy rain, no river or creek flooding will occur.

The National Weather canceled a flood watch.  In Lee County, flood stage on the Kinchafoonee is 13 feet.

Currently the creek is at 6 and a half feet, and the EMA expects the creek to crest tonight around 10 feet.

"We were at 3 and a half feet before the rain came, over the weekend, and we got a little over 3 inches just north of us.  Based on past experience I don't anticipate it getting much out of the action stage," said Chief James Howell, Lee County Fire Department.

Chief Howell says the drought conditions in Lee County kept the weekend rains from causing any creek flooding problems.
