Chehaw's attendance rises

ALBANY, GA -

More people are enjoying everything that Chehaw Park has to offer. Attendance at the park jumped about 10% in 2011.

Over the last few years, the park saw anywhere from 96,000 to 98,000 visitors, but last year they pulled in 108,000 people.

Chehaw officials say in a difficult economy, people tend to stay closer to home instead of taking expensive vacations.

"They call them stay-cations and we marketed to that too, we want people to come out here, we know a lot of our local people like to come out here and camp for example, they will come out and pitch a tent," says Doug Porter, Chehaw Executive Director.

The African Veldt attraction will open soon. It mimics the grasslands of central Africa and will feature animals native to that region. You can get a sneak peak at the new exhibit at this Saturday's Sip & Safari fundraiser.
