THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - As we move deeper into allergy season, many of you are suffering from sinus problems.

Severe problems even sometimes require surgery.

12-year-old Jordon Brinkley says before last month his sinuses were out of control. "I just felt pressure and it was pretty tight and there was a lot of congestion."

Brinkley had a relatively new procedure known as balloon sinuplasty.

It's a minimally invasive alternative to traditional sinus surgery. "I had absolutely no pain whatsoever with the procedure and probably breathe better now than I have since I was a teenager," said Patient E. S. Bullington.

Successfully performing this procedure helped Archbold's Ear, Nose, Throat, and Allergy Center earn a designation as a Sinus Center of Excellence. "This is a designation that shows we have proven patient safety, had clinically proven results. Including over the past year doing a number of cases with a specific technology called Balloon Sinuplasty," said Dr. John Gilbert.

Dr. Gilbert says this procedure saves his patients time and money. "So now you don't have to worry about general anesthesia or the side effects from that. Literally leave here from the office with open sinuses and relief from your sinus complaints."

Brinkley says his nose is not the only appendage to benefit. "My hearing was not that good before, I can still hear but it had a clogged feeling. So I can hear better also and its been going a lot better."

Bullington says he used to take a decongestant and ibuprofen every morning just to keep from having a headache. He says now the headaches are gone and he has much better outlook on life.

Dr. Gilbert will present a free community lecture on sinus treatment options at 6pm on March 1st at Archbold Memorial Hospital's Williams Auditorium. Pre-registration is requested, call 229-227-5140 or RSVP by email to rsvp@archbold.org.
