2 charged in Echols meth bust

Posted: Updated:

ECHOLS COUNTY (WALB) - Two south Georgia men were arrested Saturday night during a meth bust. Authorities say the suspects were trying to destroy a meth lab when deputies arrived.

Echols County Sheriff Randy Courson said his office got a tip that meth was being manufactured at a home on Sardis Church Road.

He says 54-year-old Kenneth Keen and 30-year-old Joseph Sandlin were trying to burn the meth lab in a fire.

Deputies found meth already manufactured and the two admitted to smoking and snorting the drug. Courson says Keen also used a hidden hand cuff key to try and escape but failed.

In an e-mail the sheriff told us this is the 4th time in they've been to that residence in 4 months resulting in multiple arrests.

Courson stated "We will continue to be aggressive in addressing and combating these types of calls." Courson also credits the calls coming in from concerned citizens stating, "This is a joint effort between the Sheriff's Office and the citizens of this community in an attempt to clean up these areas. A lot of what we deal with is people who are not even from the county, but who come from elsewhere to try and produce this poison in our backyard and we just won't stand for it."

Anyone with any information of illegal activity is encouraged to call the Echols County Sheriff's Office at 229-559-5603. You may remain anonymous.
