What a fabulous turnaround it's been for the Brooks County girls basketball team, after going 0-24 in 2006 the Lady Trojans are now region 1-AA champs.
Brooks County beat Thomasville Friday night to claim its 2nd region title in school history getting 32 points from Jasmine Mapp.
The Lady Trojans will be heading to the state tournament for the 3rd year in a row. Head coach Lamar Thomas says he was extremely proud of his girls especially after going winless 4 years ago.
Head coach Lamar Thomas said "So proud of these girls. These girls were here when we were 0-24. Some of these girls were young when they were coming up and we've been striving hard to make strides to be the region champs and last year we were 2nd place. We lost to Thomasville so its kind of sweet to beat them this year so its been a long time coming."
Senior Jasmine Mapp said "It felt great. We put everything out that we were supposed to. We played as a team, we did everything the coach told us to do and we just went all out and played with pride"
It was Brooks' first region title since 2002.
