High school basketball fans listen up, what if you could make a starting 5 basketball team from Albany? Well for the 2nd year in a row, that's what we did. Here is what we call the "Albany Fabulous 5."
In the middle at the center position for the 2nd year in a row it's Monroe's Rontavious Gilbert. He leads Tornadoes in blocks and rebounds and is a force the block. He has an excellent mid-range game and provides an excellent shot blocking presence in the middle.
At the power forward position, his teammate, half man-half amazing Jabari McGhee. McGhee leads Monroe in points, field goals and free throws made. McGhee has it all and what really impresses me is that he plays hard whether it be loose balls or rebounds you name it and he does it.
Moving on to small forward spot is a newcomer, Westover's T.J Cromer. Talk about smooth, Cromer is as smooth as it gets. He can get his shoot anytime he wants and pours in 21 points per game and also leads the Patriots in assists. With Cromer almost every shot is a good. The Tift County transfer has made his presence felt in his 1st year in a Patriot Jersey.
At shooting guard is Albany's Timothy Pierce. Pierce's his jumper is almost flawless, it has near perfect form. Tim Pierce leads the Indians in points per game and number of highlights you want to see on WALB per game. Pierce is an easy choice.
Finally at the point guard position, another newcomer, another Indian, Larry Sanford. Sanford has ice water in his veins. He has hit last seconds shots and has led the Indians in many close games this season. He's a coaches dream on the court and puts up 15 points per game. When you need 2 just put the ball in Sanford's hands and you can count it.
