MACON (WALB) – A south Georgia sheriff has been indicted by a federal grand jury.

Wilcox County Sheriff Stacy Bloodsworth was named in a 14-count indictment. Prosecutors say Bloodsworth, his son Austin and former inmate Willie James Caruthers assaulted two inmates.

Former jailer Casey Owens was also named in the indictment. They SAY he joined the trio in beating a third inmate.

The indictment says one inmate suffered a broken jaw and the other two had bruises and scratches.

Prosecutors also say the four tried to cover up the assaults, among other charges. It's unclear if they are in custody.
