Fight over beer sends woman to hospital

Posted: Updated:

A domestic dispute lands one man in jail and his girlfriend in the hospital.

The woman told officer she and her boyfriend of 10 years were arguing when he punched her mouth, knocking out her front teeth. Then refused to let her leave the home.

A fight over a beer sent 61 year old Johnnie BJ Sanders to the hospital early Saturday morning.

"He asked me for a beer," says Johnnie "BJ" Sanders, Victim.

When she told Franklin Jerome Smith that she did not have any beer, she says that's when he became violent.

"He got mad and jumped up out of the chair and hit me in my face and knocked my teeth out," says Sanders.

Her four front teeth had been knocked out of her mouth and were laying on the floor. She got up and tried to run out of the house.

"He grabbed me and flung me back and knocked me down on this floor down here, twice," says Sanders.

She heard her hip pop as she fell to the floor. "I am lucky that I am alive right now," says Sanders.

He kept her in the house and would not let her leave. "He sat right there and made sure I couldn't go out neither door," says Sanders.

Sanders says they had been at a party earlier that night and Smith had been drinking.

"When he is drinking he gets crazy," says Sanders.

She says it could have been much worse. "I'm don't know what he is capable of doing, ain't no telling what he will do and what he wont do, I wouldn't put nothing past him."

And now she wants to send out a message so no one has to go through what she endured this morning.

"Anybody have an abusive man, you better let him go because one day he is going to start and never going to stop," says Sanders.

Franklin Jerome Smith is being charged with Aggravated Battery and False Imprisonment.

He is currently in the Dougherty County jail.
