ALBANY, GA -

Tax time is here and many people will need a little extra help filing those IRS forms.

Seniors can get free tax help through a partnership between the SOWEGA Council on Aging and AARP.

Every Monday and Tuesday through Tax Day, seniors who make appointments can get help filing the IRS Form 1040 from a group of 20 volunteers.

The volunteers are part of the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program and undergo yearly training to make sure that they know all of the changes in the tax code.

With the yearly training they're able to help senior filers, even those who have been doing their own for years.

Laura McKinney, one of the Volunteer Tax Preparers said, "(Thursday) we had one come in and just wanted us to check them for her, so we took them put them in our machine and checked them.  We have others who don't even know what to bring in so we have to tell them what to bring in.  So we have the whole gamut."

Seniors can make appointments for the Monday and Tuesday sessions but they are filling up fast.  If you would like to make an appointment to get your taxes done, you can call the SOWEGA Council on Aging at 432-1131.
