ALBANY, GA -
Georgia voters go to the polls in the Presidential Primary three weeks from today. A lot of people thought the race would essentially be over before Super Tuesday, but not so fast. With so many delegates up for grabs in Georgia, the state is quickly becoming a battle ground.
A Super Pac that supports Mitt Romney will launch their attack tomorrow against home state candidate Newt Gingrich's record. This commercial will run on our ABC and NBC stations. In Georgia, where many state Republican leaders support Gingrich, they're not sure it will work.
"I think the people are going to be for Newt, they know him, he's been faithful to the conservative cause," said Dougherty County GOP official Tommy Ragsdale.
"He's home now and he's going to carry Georgia," Bishop John Burr.
Even though the attack ads from the Super PAC are going to come against him very hard from Romney, Mitt Romney. At stake in Georgia, a lot of delegates, at 76 it's more than Florida and the fourth largest group of delegates in the nation. 09:58:28 Tommy
"It might be closer because of the money that Romney puts in to the campaign, but I think Newt will still come out ahead and still come out with the most delegates," said Ragsdale.
With early voting underway, some have already made up their minds, based on what they've seen in other states.
"If you could pick the good points from each one and make one candidate it would be great, but you can't do that so you have to decide," Marlene Duke said.
Georgia's GOP hopes voters will do their own research and not just rely on the campaign ads preparing to bombard TV viewers leading up to the March 6th primary.
"We've got to get rid of the apathy and regardless of how we feel we've got to vote," said Burr.
Every vote counts. It will prove interesting, without a clear national front runner many are still keeping a close eye on what's to come and what the candidates might say or promise next.
Early voting is underway statewide. In Dougherty County. You can vote in the Elections Office at the Government Center from 8 to 5 Monday through Friday and on Saturday February 25th.
