THOMASVILLE, GA -
Thomasville Police say the days of feeling safe leaving your doors unlocked are over. They want you to lock up your cars and homes.
They increased patrols after dozens of thefts from unlocked cars, and they're seeing an increase in residential burglaries.
The Thomasville Police Department is warning folks to make sure to lock their cars and their homes.
Over the last few months, the city has been hit by burglars trying to make a quick buck.
"If anybody sees anyone trying to sell any items on the street. Televisions, computers, anything that's of value and it doesn't seem right give the police department a call," said Thomasville Police Department Lt. Eric Hampton.
Police have added patrols to the area around Tuxedo drive.
"It doesn't have to be your neighborhood, if you see anyone in the neighborhood acting suspicious as you're traveling through the neighborhood, give us a call so we can check them out," said Hampton.
Police say the citizens of the community are their eyes and ears when they're not around.
"We ask that they get good description of people. What they're wearing, their direction of travel, if they're walking. And if they're in a vehicle, get a good description of the vehicle. And if possible, get a tag number," said Hampton.
Police say the residential burglaries occur both day and night, but the car break-ins mainly occur overnight.
Police say during one of the daytime burglaries, the suspect took time out for lunch and heated up some collard greens.
Police say these suspects do not seem to be focusing on one particular item to steal. They'll taking anything from loose change to a big screen TV.
All Thomasville Police Department divisions, from criminal investigations to the bike team, are involved in the investigation.
