ALBANY, GA -
Do you think love is free? A survey by the National Retail Federation finds that Americans will show love, by spending 17.6 billion dollars on Valentine's Day.
Have you bought that special someone a gift yet? You could always go with dinner and a movie.
Before you go trying to break the bank, couples we talked to like the little things. "I feel like Valentine's Day is just a regular day. When you really love someone it should be that way everyday," said 26-year-old Ashley Marshall.
Valentine's Day is a two day love affair for the Bakers. They actually started celebrating yesterday over bacon and eggs. "I bought her a ring earlier. Then I brought her here to breakfast. I got her some pots and pans. Also I bought her tickets to the Tyler Perry play," said Husband Charlie Baker.
"I got him some shoes and cologne. We get each other what we need, instead of what we want," said Wife Gloria Baker.
Practical love is what they show on Valentine's Day. The Bakers have been married for 17 years. "It's more about spending time with that person and making it personal," said Mrs. Baker.
Florists are feeling the love in the air and in their pockets. They're expected to rake in over a billion dollars nationwide for the Valentine's holiday period.
"Most of us don't want roses or anything like that. We get that all the time," said Marshall.
Roses and candy top the list of the most common ways to say "I love you" followed by cards and diamonds. "I just want to be appreciated and to know that what I do everyday is special," said Wife Lorrina Langreder.
The Langreder's celebrate Valentine's the day after, because they work two different shifts. And the biggest gift to them won't be dipped in gold or come in a bouquet.
"With me it's the time we spend together. Time is so precious. If I get a little extra that's a bonus," said Lorrina Langreder.
Something extra could be the Tyler Perry play at the civic center tonight. Tickets are between $37 and $50 dollars and the show starts at 7:30pm in Albany.
