ALBANY, GA -

Did you notice the price of gas today? At many Albany stations, it jumped 12¢ a gallon.

As florists gear up for their biggest day of the year, many will add a delivery fee to cover their growing costs.

That's not expected to stop most people who typically send flowers to their sweethearts.

Gas prices jumping to $3.53 is the last thing florists wanted to see just days before their biggest delivery day of the year. Hadden's Flowers and Gifts is bringing on extra employees to meet the day's demands.

"We've hired probably six driver's that will be here Monday and Tuesday and then we hired about three extra people to wait on people in the store," said Anne Gray of Hadden's Flowers& Gifts.

They'll have to help those new driver's with the high price of gas since they're driving their own vehicles, adding to their delivery charge, but just a little. Despite the high prices at the pump many say they'll splurge to send something special to the one they love.

"I don't have to but I'm going to. I'm going to get in trouble if I don't," said Stewart Short.

"I believe he's going to do it, send me a dozen roses, because it's Valentine's and our anniversary," said Regina Watts.

Many florists prefer for Valentines Day to fall on Tuesday. "This is one of the most preferred days for Valentine's Day to be on, we expect to have a lot of business," said Gray.

It's expected to be a traditional Valentine's Day with the biggest request for a dozen of red roses, but florists suggest considering other alternatives, like a plant.

"Some of them bloom some of them you can plant in the yard, we have teddy bears, we have balloons," said Gray.

They also recommend a Monday delivery, instead of Valentine's Day which is Tuesday this year.

"You can get really good service, and you can make that lady smile at work and the other ladies are going to look and be a little jealous because she got it first."

Hadden's plans to be open Sunday, while they're filling orders, they'll also take orders, for those who've waited right down to the wire to send that special something to the one they love.

Hadden's will try to honor special requests. You can bring in a special vase if you'd like them to put the flowers in it.

They'll even deliver flowers to a restaurant to make your evening out extra special.
