CORDELE, GA -
A Cordele man claimed he was robbed, but didn't want his accused robber to go to jail. Steven Mock says he was robbed while offering a man work.
Our cameras were rolling when Crisp County Sheriff deputies arrested 27-year-old Marcus Marshall. He's accused of robbing 38-year-old Steven Mock.
Mock said he was held up while offering Marshall a job. "He said he was trying to offer him a job and met him somewhere and he was there to pick him up to carry him back and do some masonry work," said Crisp County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Billy Hancock.
A deputy on patrol spotted Marshall running and chased him down. "He saw a male subject run across the road and noticed a vehicle on the other side of the road with some people in it that began chasing the male that was running across the road, so he got out to investigate, called other officers and turned out he had rode up on a strong armed robbery that was occurring," said Deputy Hancock.
Deputies also arrested 24-year-old Demarkus Singleton. Singleton, who was with Marshall during the crime, had a warrant out for his arrest in Tift County. He's charged with driving on a suspended license and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Mock later told deputies he doesn't want to press charges against Marshall, but the Crisp County District Attorney has decided to charge Marshall with robbery by snatching.
Singleton remains in Jail and cops found Prescription drugs in one of the cars involved but they were legal.
