South Georgia is the country's Quail hunting capital. The Georgia Chamber of Commerce is using the sport to try to improve the state's economy.
Chris Clark the CEO, GA. Chamber of Commerce says, "Right now in Georgia the number one goal is job creation."
The 24th Georgia Quail Hunt is helping South Georgia economic developers network leaders from companies around the globe. Officials say the hunt is responsible for bringing jobs to Georgia.
Clark says, "This event has created thousands of job as well."
More business leaders than ever are here this year. The hope is they'll bond with Georgia leaders while quail hunting and learn what our state has to offer.
"When you have been a tough economic time for this many years with incentives and everything else business can choose to up and leave at relatively low cost," says Chris Cummiskey ,Commissioner of Economic Development of Georgia.
Clarks says, "It's the premiere event for economic development for south Georgia. Its about nurturing those relationships. We got business project managers business communities and elected local officials as well."
And with great potential in manufacturing, specialized workforce education and agriculture, officials insist that southwest Georgia will not be left behind.
"We are not closing the door on anybody, we are going to work on their needs, and we can meet every need we have," says Cummiskey.
Needs that if met will affect everyone and the economy throughout the state.
