The state is working to protect you from severe weather.
There was a statewide tornado drill today.
2011 was a record year for tornadoes.
Who can forget the video from Tuscaloosa, the home of the University of Alabama, where a deadly tornado roared through town.
At Albany State, all buildings have designated shelters and there is a siren on campus as well.
But in case students and faculty don't hear the siren, there is another way to alert them to potential weather dangers.
Major CaDedria Hill of the Albany State University Police Department said, "what the Mass Notification system does is, it sends out text messages, it sends out e-mails and even voice mails for those who have numbers and e-mail addresses in the system."
Georgia Southwestern State University has a similar system to the one that ASU has on its campus. Albany State will host a severe weather practice drill on Friday.
