Eric Schindler and Paul Mulkey resigned at Tuesday night's city council meeting in response to the city letting go of three employees.
The council did not reappoint Ann Peterson who served as city clerk for thirty years, Fire Chief David Brown or Police Chief Bert Rutland who was 15 months shy of retirement.
Schindler says other council members don't have good morals or the city's best interest at heart. Ben Futch, Lake Park Mayor, says the decision not to reappoint the workers is a personnel matter, and he won't discuss it.
"We're having some internal controls reviews done," said Mayor Futch. "I don't want to comment on that until the reviews are completed and then we'll be making some statements. We have some problem areas were looking at."
"Our Fire Chief David Brown who built our fire department from ruins has not been reappointed he's been replaced by Tim Baker who replaced our police chief and is acting as interim fire chief," said Former City Council Member Eric Schindler.
The Mayor says now they can't have meetings because they don't have a quorum and the city will be polarized until they have a special election that he says could be in May or November.
