THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - While balloons, chocolates, and teddy bears are a nice addition on Valentines Day, flowers are generally the main attraction. "We'll take as many orders as we can up until that day. And it's the most exciting florist holiday," said Owner of Walden's Flowers in Thomasville Deanna Copps.
Copps says while the mild temperatures do help with delivery, they have little to no effect on production. "Most of the roses come from Colombia so the local temperatures do not affect their production."
The weather has opened the door for local flower enthusiasts. "It looks like it's going to be a beautiful spring in Thomasville. We've got the Flower Show coming in March and than the Rose Show in April and Thomasville is blooming early and it's beautiful to see," said Garden Club President Julia Singletary.
The flower festivities begin this weekend with The Camellia Show. "The last couple years freezing weather has caused us to cancel the show, but this year the week looks great. The camellias are in full bloom," said Singletary.
If you are expecting, or at least hoping for flowers this Tuesday, Copps says everything should go according to plan. "It's nice mild weather and so the flowers should arrive looking fresh and pretty. The weather should be a good thing."
Copps says while the economy may prevent folks from buying flowers throughout the year, they never have a problem maximizing profits on Valentine's Day.
Saturday afternoon's Camellia Show is from 1:30 to 5 at the Thomasville Garden Center. Anyone looking to compete can turn in their entries starting at 7:30 Saturday morning.
