ALBANY (WALB) - After 22-years of representing the Marine Corps and southwest Georgia well, the Albany Marine Band is preparing for a bittersweet farewell.
The Marine Corps recently decided to deactivate the award-winning band to save money.
Next Tuesday, Valentines Night, the band will hold its final performance called "Thanks for the Memories."
"It's a bittersweet moment. We're going to get to thank everybody that's been with this band through the years that has built this band up to be who we are. We were the band of the year for two years in a row. Today going around town advertising, everyone is sad to see the Albany Marine Band will not be here any longer," said Staff Sgt. Terry Kopetzki, US Marine Corps.
The Albany Marine Band is made up of 38 enlisted Marines and one officer.
The farewell concert is free.
It starts at 7 o'clock Tuesday at the Municipal Auditorium.
